What A Good Life Is • The Baca’s Home Movie

Apr 21

Last spring The Baca’s flew me down to their home in Texas to make this Home Movie film. Up until this point, my Home Movie shoots had consisted primarily of shorter shoots with families. But the Baca’s had a vision for a complete day-in-the-life family session, from sun up to sun down. This project was a massive undertaking, but one I would do again in a heartbeat. This is what I truly love. Documentation of ordinary life – immortalizing those sweet morsels of daily rhythms. I hope you enjoy this film.

what elaine baca had to say about their experience:

“As a photographer I have always been the one behind the camera. Being in front of the camera makes me nervous and I really dislike it in general. The thought of spending an entire day with a camera in our home was a little daunting, but I can say with confidence it was one of the best decisions of my life. Lauren made me feel like I could just be myself and go about my day without being nervous or concerned. We laughed and joked, we shared our lives with her in a very intimate way, we were given the freedom to just be ourselves. To top it off, the kids absolutely love Lauren and often ask when her next visit will be.”

“The final film is such a priceless heirloom. We’ve watched it countless times and are already making plans for when we can do the next installment. Our kids grow and change so quickly and this film freezes them in time – from missing teeth and messy rooms, to jumping in puddles and playing make believe. This film is one I will cherish as one of my most precious belongings for the rest of my life. It was worth every penny and more.”

“Thank you Lauren for giving us this priceless gift. You are a beautiful soul and it shines through in the art you create. We can’t fully express how much this film means to all four of us.”
