It’s That Time!

It’s that time of year again! The sun is shining, the tank is clean, and it’s time to take off all our clothes and romp through fields of wildflowers! Last year, I shot a handful of outdoor boudoir sessions for the first time and I just fell in love. The beauty of a bodyscape mixed with the majesty of a landscape is such a natural fit. And, photos aside, the experience of outdoor boudoir is something in and of itself. Feeling the wind on your legs and the water on your skin – I think there’s something very nourishing about it. Something elemental.

Photographing Eva’s outdoor boudoir at Bird Point was so freakin’ fun. Outdoor boudoir definitely necessitates an adventurous spirit and Eva was literally up for anything – be it rock climbing or laying in glacially cold pools. She was not scared of the wet and wind, but embraced it with delight. Because of her openness, we got to create some work that I’m really proud of.

Is an outdoor boudoir photoshoot right for me?

If you have a wild spirit and don’t mind getting a little dirty, outdoor boudoir is for you! Must be open to the elements (including but not limited to): mosquitos, wind, rain, dirt, wildlife, possible run ins with other humans (but hopefully not!)

Where do you shoot your outdoor boudoir sessions?

I have a few places I like to go near Anchorage. I try to find spots that are easily accessible while still allowing for seclusion. Run ins with other humans aren’t entirely preventable, but I do try to find spots that offer as much privacy as possible.

What should I wear to my shoot?

Earth tones and neutrals photograph really beautifully outdoors. Also, any fabrics with a lot of movement (like chiffon) flow really beautifully in the wind. I typically recommend keeping things more basic when it comes to outdoor shoots, so that your body and the scenery can be the focal point. I also highly recommend going nude for (at least part of) your session. The nude body in nature is insanely beautiful.

Is there anything else I should bring to my shoot?

Definitely bring bug spray. The summer mosquitos are no joke, so coat yourself accordingly before we head out! I also recommend bringing a towel just in case you need to clean off before driving home.
