If you asked me, I would say I never take on births anymore. But sometimes, the timing works out perfectly and I can’t say no. Truth is, I wish I could say yes to births all the time! The magic of the moment when a human enters the earth is a special kind of sacred you have to see to understand. Documenting a birth is unlike anything else.

Codi’s birth was special in that all of her family (husband, mom, dad, and sister) were all present for the experience. Their closeness as family was palpable and the communal nature of this baby’s delivery was a certain kind of special I can barely put words to.

When I asked Codi for her permission to share these images with you, she said something so beautiful to me. She said, “I’m so proud of every aspect of that experience. A few weeks after baby was born, I got to visit this fam at their house for a relaxed in-home newborn session. It was a calm and cloudy spring afternoon and we just took it easy while we made photos of this new family of four.
