There’s this part in one my favorite Christmas movies, The Family Stone, where Sarah Jessica Parker’s character unearths a photo of Diane Keaton’s character, joyfully pregnant with one hand to her face and the other resting on her belly. SJP proceeds to frame and gift that photo to every member of the family on Christmas morning. After everyone unwraps the photograph, Diane Keaton looks at Rachel McAdams, her surly but endearing daughter, and says,
“That’s you and me kid. That’s you and me.”
This scene comes at *THE* most chaotic point in the movie, but the gesture and the moments that follow are undeniably touching.
Almost every time I shoot a maternity session, that scene is in the back of my mind. And it fills me up to think not only about how much couples like Regan and Lucas will love these photos right now, but also how much their daughter will love them when she sees them as a grown up.
I hope she and all the other babies I’ve photographed in the womb get their own Family Stone moment, maybe minus the family chaos and breakfast casserole spilled all over their shirt.

I’ve been photographing many a maternity session lately, and I gotta say- I love it. All these mamas come wanting simple portraits of that bump and their love, and it’s totally my jam. My very favorite flavor.
My books are open for the spring and summer so if you want to get yourself some photos, maternity or otherwise, holler at me: hello@laurenroberts.com
I also have a few open dates sprinkled throughout the summer and fall for weddings, so get in touch!
Lots of love and babies,
Lauren
