If you’ve been following my work, you’ll recognize these two. It’s Beth and Brian, only this time with a baby inside.
Before I left for Minneapolis, I found myself drowning in deadlines and a bit distracted with the tediousness of gear and business structure. Not to discredit the importance of such things, but somewhere along the line I lost my drive and my passion. I forgot why it was I liked to to create.
On a wet and gray day in Minnetonka, I walked the stairs to Brian and Beth’s apartment. Brian made me one of the most delicious grilled cheeses I’ve ever eaten. We caught up, listened to Mumford and Sons and then made our way outside.
And for the first time in a while.
I felt freedom.
The kind of freedom that didn’t demand a magnificent shooting backdrop, the kind that lifted all the stress I’d felt over figuring out what it meant to walk and talk like a professional. The kind that released me to just be. To stand back and look for the beautiful moments. To make art out of ordinary surroundings- on the brick wall of their apartment building, on the street, in the lobby.
Searching for beauty wherever I am. Wasn’t that the point behind the name all along? For a moment I forgot, but this trip renewed to me an untethorred invitation to freedom through creativity.
Thanks Baby Meaden. Photographing you healed me.
And once you’re done incubating in there, hurry on up because we can’t wait to meet you.
Our hipster inspired recap of The Shining.
I don’t think I will ever meet another woman in all of my travels who will want to take yoga maternity photos. Beth, you are the queen of all things badass.
If this kid is anything like his parents, he’ll come out marathon ready and nursing on Kombucha. With two of the best explorers I know as parents, he’s going to have one. epic. childhood.
Fabulous photo shoot!! I love it! And I love Beth, Brian and Baby Meaden!
