THE BIRTH OF BABY MADELYN

There’s this running joke the Roberts sisters have with the Adams family. It goes something like…

If any one Adams family member plans on having a milestone moment in their life, either I or my sister will be a part of it.

The very first wedding I ever filmed was for their oldest daughter Drea. A few summers later I photographed the wedding of their youngest daughter Allison. Not too long after that, I photographed the birth of Grace Adams’ first son. And last March I had the honor of photographing the birth of her daughter Madelyn. That’s not even to mention my sister Kathryn’s involvement. In the past 2 years, Kathryn has delivered 3 out of 5 of the Adams family grandbabies. Clearly, we just can’t help ourselves…

Where the Adams family goes, we go. Kathryn with her baby catching hands and me with my camera.

Truly though, it’s been one of the most special privileges of my career to be allowed so many opportunities to document these mile-marker moments for one family. Last March that privilege became exponentially compounded when I got the once-in-a-lifetime chance to photograph the birth of a baby that my very own sister delivered.

I don’t need to tell you that this story is very near and dear to my heart. It’s a story of a crisp night when a beautiful baby named Madelyn was pushed into the world literally by the power of laughter. Scroll on to see it for yourself…

Here’s a photo of my sister and I from that night. Many, many thanks to the Adams family for their continued trust and inclusion of my sister and I in their lives. We love you Adams clan!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADI

One year later, Gracie asked me if I would come and make a film for Madi’s first birthday. The entire time I was filming and editing, I just kept thinking about how much I cherish the film I have from my first birthday. As humans, we don’t ever get the chance to know our parents at the age they were when they had us. It’s only through stories and photos that we get a sense of who they were as people way back when. I really like thinking about Madi being able to watch this decades from now- to see how she was loved and celebrated even when she was just a little bunny.

Thank you Grace and Austin for the chance to make these photos and this film and thanks for watching!

With love, Lauren
